Manage the planning and preparation of forced and planned outages to ensure that the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) outages are planned and executed in accordance with industry best practice while ensuring the highest standards for nuclear and employee safety in accordance to Nawah standards and procedures.

Outage Management – Preparation and Scheduling

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Manage the creation of effective refueling outage plans that incorporate the requirements of the long-term life-cycle outage plan in place to keep the BNPP units operating safely and efficiently.
  • Manage and monitor the preparation, planning, execution and closeout of outage preparation related activities, with a focus on preparation and planning, to ensure that outage planning remains on track and that sufficient recovery plans are put in place to support milestones that are at risk.
  • Liaise with Outage Execution, Scheduling, Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Work Management and Turbine and Refuel Services to refine and implement, as necessary, risk mitigation strategies for schedule risk, equipment reliability risk and maintenance performance risk to minimize the impact of unexpected or unplanned events.
  • Lead the implementation of outage management processes and procedures for scoping, planning and conducting the outage and coordinate with the online planning process to ensure alignment of the outage management with Work Management, Maintenance and Turbine and Refuel Services.
  • Verify that outage schedule development activities are conducted in a manner where Nuclear Safety is the overriding priority, and that include all aspects of Shutdown Safety, to ensure a safety conscious work environment.
  • Monitor Outage Execution activities and required interfacing functions to ensure that they are aligned to the established outage milestones and that regulatory requirements, operating policies and principles, standards for nuclear, industrial, and environmental safety, and industry best practices are followed.
  • Verify that communications with Transco regarding outages meet procedural requirements for Transco communication and notification to support reliable and economic supply planning.

Outage Execution

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Lead outage execution activities such as organization and implementation of the Outage Control Center (OCC), daily outage meetings, and critical path tracking to ensure continuity of direction.
  • Monitor achievement of key schedule milestones during outage execution, milestone product quality, and corrective actions to minimize plant downtime during planned and forced outages.
  • Manage support for execution of Forced Outage Program processes and procedures to ensure execution is safe and efficient in order to return the affected unit(s) to service.

Outage Management – Lessons Learned and Other

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Manage and monitor department performance against established performance criteria through various means such as self-assessments, performance monitoring programs, direct personal observation and industry benchmarked Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and report finding to ensure continuous performance improvement.
  • Establish effective management information systems effectively to track work volumes, schedule performance and overall outage performance in the Outage Management organization to enable trending, analysis and communication of performance.
  • Support Governance efforts to align outage preparation procedures and processes with the regulatory requirements and industry best practices in order to ensure safe and efficient implementation of the outage process.
  • Maintain engagement in the nuclear industry, best practices, Operating Experience (OPEX) and Lessons Learned to foster a culture of continuous improvement within the Outage Management Outage Preparation organization.
  • Conduct post outage critiques by identifying any gaps in performance, safety near-miss issues, and any additional needed support to ensure resultant lessons learned are incorporated in future plant outages.

Operational Planning

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Provide input into the development of the Division’s systems, processes and procedures, as well develop and implement the Department’s systems and processes, identifying potential areas of improvement to ensure efficient, effective, safe and risk-free operations as well as compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor, control and report Operational and financial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to the Department, to track performance and recommend corrective or mitigating actions.
  • Ensure that all relative reports are prepared timely and accurately, and meet the Department’s requirements and standards.

Health and Safety and Security

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Ensure compliance to all relevant health, safety and environmental management policies, procedures and controls across the Division/Department/Section by the delivery of the Health and Safety Management Program to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high quality services and a responsible environmental attitude.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate requirements for adherence to policies, procedures and instructions related to Crisis Management and Business Continuity in order to continue mission critical activities.

  • Bachelor of Science degree.
  • 10 years of relevant experience out of which:
  • 2 years in a Managerial role
